Hello,
I'm looking for anyone else that was at Holden Village on a youth weekend, when Mt St Helens erupted on Sun, May 18th, 1980. That morning before we went home after a fun weekend, as we went into church services we heard Mt St Helens erupt.
I was also there for the May youth weekend the year before that in 1979. |

I wasn't there, but my dad was. He was walking out of the dining hall and the rumble rolled through the valley. He joked at the time "Ah, there went St. Helens..."
Soon after, the news reach the village that Helens had actually blown and that the passes were going to be closed soon. He was one of the last cars to make it over the pass. We heard stories of church groups stranded in Wenatchee with 15 people to a room for a few days.
My dad was youth director at Faith Lutheran Church in Redmond WA. |

| i was there, sitting out under the bell and we heard a far off rumbling... we all wondered if it was an avalanche... then when the bus came up, the people told us that Mt. St. Helen's had blown. We left that day and going down lake got erie and dark...from the ash... we stopped at MacD's in Wenatchee on the way home and the outside tables had a layer of ash on them......... |
